Beit Issie Shapiro CEO Ahmir Lerner also addressed the United Nations General Assembly as part of COSP19, representing Israeli civil society and speaking about the importance of truth, inclusion, and equal rights.
In his remarks, Ahmir called on the international community to “have the courage to speak clearly, reject false equivalence, and defend truth, even when it is uncomfortable.”
Additonally, Beit Issie Shapiro was honored to host one of the first side events of the COSP19 Conference at the United Nations, together with the Mission of Israel to the UN and Israel’s Commission for Equal Rights of Persons with Disabilities.
The event, Preparedness, Protection and Response for Persons With Disabilities in Times of Emergency, brought together leaders from Israel and around the world to discuss how countries can build emergency systems that are inclusive, accessible, and ready to support people with disabilities before, during, and after times of crisis.
Beit Issie Shapiro CEO Ahmir Lerner represented Israeli civil society on the panel, sharing lessons from Israel’s recent emergency realities and Beit Issie’s work to develop practical models for proactive outreach, training, family support, and accessible crisis communication.
As Ahmir shared at the UN: “Preparedness is not only about infrastructure. It is about proactive outreach, trained people, and systems that can function under disruption.”
