The History of Beit Issie Shapiro

Issie Shapiro
“Every person has the right to live in dignity and in accordance with the full extent of their abilities.”
(Issie Shapiro z”l)
Beit Issie Shapiro, was established in 1980

Beit Issie Shapiro, was established in 1980 based on the vision of Issie Shapiro, z"l.

Born in 1915 in South Africa

Born in 1915 in South Africa, Issie moved to Israel in 1977 with his wife Lucie, aiming to transform services for people with disabilities. He dreamed of an Israel where individuals with disabilities enjoyed full community participation and equal opportunities. Tragically, Issie passed away at 65 during a fundraising trip to establish a program for people with disabilities. However, his dream lived on.

In his memory, founded Beit Issie Shapiro.

In his memory, the extended Shapiro family, including his children Max Shapiro and Esther Boyd, led by Naomi Stuchiner and supported by Willie and Celia Trump, z"l, and their children Eddie, Jules, and Stephanie Trump, founded Beit Issie Shapiro. Initially a community-based special education center for 16 children with complex cognitive disabilities, it has evolved into a globally recognized organization impacting over 500,000 lives annually.

His dream remains alive

Today, Issie Shapiro's vision continues to guide Beit Issie Shapiro. His dream remains alive, influencing the organization's efforts to provide people with disabilities and their families access to unique, state-of-the-art services and support. This ongoing commitment ensures they can realize their potential in an inclusive society with equal opportunities.
