VERALL GOAL

MISSION

The overall goal of the project Vägar till Arbete (Paths to employment) was to increase knowledge among students,

teachers and other involved professionals on how the use of new technology (focus on mainstream) can facilitate

participation and performance in school and support successful completion of secondary school.

Many students have difficulties with following lectures, focusing and keeping up with class work, and leaving in

assignments which often means they are unable to successfully complete secondary education. They have bleak future

prospects as completion of secondary education is a prerequisite for employment in Sweden.

The project included interventions for 215 students and information activities for all students and teachers in the

schools. Intervention technology included ipads, tablets, smartphones, apps, computers and computer programs.

Support offered varied according to the individual’s needs and ranged from support for writing,following and taking

notes at lectures, reading, planning, and structuring their time ( e.g. getting to class and turning in assignments on time).

An information activy,"Technology classrooms" , showed how microphones, interactive whiteboards, computers, web-

based platforms, MP3 players as well as calendars and planning aids (on smartphones) are of benefit for all students and

have the possibility of giving specific support as needed to individual students.

HE SOLUTION THAT HAS BEEN DEVELOPED

Training materials on how disabilities can affect performance in school and for the implementation of technologies to

support students with functional limitations that affect academic achievement.

Increased knowledge on methods concerning collaboration among professionals working with youth who have difficulty

participating and performing in school. Development of the instrument BAS (Assessment of adjustments in the school

environment). Establishing methods of collaboration with professionals outside of the school environment who work

with youth with disability.
