MISSION

Many students with visual impairment cannot attend mainstream education because of lacking tools and psychological

barriers. Therefore the mission of the project is to support students with visual impairment in a way they can participate

in regular classes. This can be achieved through providing assistive technology and specific teams of educative attention.

The specific teams who support students with visual impairment consist of professionals with different profiles including

teacher, professors, rehabilitation technicians, social workers, psychologist and more. Regardless of the age or

educative stage they back the students with special needs, from early intervention on to adults and university students.

T

HE SOLUTION THAT HAS BEEN DEVELOPED

Every participant of the program goes through a process of reception and multi-professional assessment from which an

individualized plan of action is generated. The plan is directed and coordinated by one professional. In the case of

education, the case coordinator is a teacher. He detects the students´ needs, refers them to the appropriate specialists

and brings together all the activities which were taken around the case. In order to respond to all the needs several

intervention areas are addressed by the team including the early intervention from birth to the age of six, visual

stimulation and specific techniques to improve the visual performance and basic instrumental techniques like essential

skills in reading, writing and calculation in sighted and in Braille. Other services contain familiar intervention, educative

orientation, free time activities which are offered and an appropriate adaption of the school curriculum.
