MISSION

In1School aims to break down the barriers in law and policy that have long kept and continue to keep disabled children

from participating in regular education in the Netherlands. In1School has researched the law, policy and practices

around inclusive education in the Netherlands, and worldwide. This information has been published in a number of

reports, including Moving towards Inclusive Education as a Human Right (in English and Dutch), and Dutch reports on

the jurisprudence of inclusive education, CRPD and the Dutch educational system, and successful practices. A website

has been launched and social media are used to broadly disseminate information and to gather stories about both

exclusion and successful stories of inclusion in the Netherlands. (

). We have set up a communication

and network campaign to reach out and mobilize students, parents and educators who are inspired by Article 24 of the

CRPD to campaign for inclusive classrooms and schools. Based on stories and statistical information we gather, we are

actively developing a strategic litigation strategy, together with human rights lawyers in the Netherlands, to challenge

ongoing practices and policies of exclusion. This in light of pending ratification procedures of the UN CRPD. In1School

has a small working staff, made up primarily of parents of young people with a disability and of adults with a disability.

Our connection to practice informs all strategic decision making.

T

HE SOLUTION THAT HAS BEEN DEVELOPED

In1School combines research, peer-to-peer outreach and advocacy, using a hands-on strategy for legally challenging

educational exclusion. In1School reaches out to other NGO's and DPOs, parents, students and educators to provide

support for developing inclusive classrooms or getting admitted to regular schools and getting proper support. Outreach

is done via social media and a highly current and informative website, aimed at gathering stories of educational

exclusion and successful inclusion. Networks are actively being developed to support schools and parents. A legal

network is being set up to target and challenge exclusive practices and support parents in bringing equal treatment and

right to education claims in strategic litigation.´
