MISSION

The mission of this project is to open up E-marketing for the deaf who have graduated from high school. This aims at

providing them with jobs through training, in addition to helping them make use of technology and social media. This is

achieved by training them first in basic computer skills, followed by Internet courses and an electronic marketing

training programme. Deaf students who graduate from high school find it difficult to join the Yemeni universities

because of their weak level in reading and writing. Employers need graduates with a post-high-school certificate, while

private companies do not employ the deaf because they lack special skills. This reduces their choices considerably in

terms of vocation, which is usually of a physical orientation such as auto mechanics or construction, or it even leaves

them completely without a skill or work. Instead, they go to Internet cafes to play and communicate through signs with

the deaf from outside Yemen or via WhatsApp and Skype. The deaf use these apps, but they do not recognize the many

benefits of the same.

T

HE SOLUTION THAT HAS BEEN DEVELOPED

The E-commerce project makes use of this hobby that is so loved by the deaf as well as their love of the various social

apps to encourage them to use some of their time on the Internet to learn some E-marketing skills. It also trains them in

how to deal with various aspects of the Internet, including learning basic computer skills. Most of the deaf use the

computer only superficially. We train them to use the various websites and to deal with the difficulty in reading by

providing software that converts writing to signs. The programme targets both sexes – graduates from high school or

other institutes – who are searching for jobs or want to acquire professional skills in E-marketing. It allows deaf girls in

particular to deal with social restrictions, for example, restrictions that prevent them from leaving home or having any

interaction with men. Usually, the family starts to act in a less restrictive way when they find that their girls are

becoming more experienced in life and excel in what they do.
