VERALL GOAL

MISSION

The mission of the Inclusive Education project is to facilitate improved enrolment, retention and learning as well as

improved accessibility of quality education by learners with disabilities. Over 30% of children with disabilities across

Zimbabwe are not in school (National Association of Society and Care of the Handicapped, 2013). Less than 0.1% of

enrolled children in the four project districts are children with disabilities, against a national disability prevalence of 7%

(National Statistical Office, 2013), demonstrating stark exclusion.

As a result, children with disabilities (CWDs) may be last to enroll in school & first to drop out. Lack of access to this

basic human right curtails future life chances & perpetuates poverty & exclusion: 43% of male & 57% female people

with disabilities in Zimbabwe have never been employed. This should be changed with this project.

Provide transport solutions to children with mobility challenges

Train & support CEEOs to support CWDs into mainstream primary education

Facilitate adaptations to school buildings & provide inclusive materials

Establish & equip resource centers

f.

Establish & support Child-to-Child clubs

g.

Train teachers in inclusive, gender-sensitive & child-centered teaching methods

h.

Train teachers, education officials & parents in Sign Language & Braille

i.

With other stakeholders, advocate for compulsory IE components in all teacher training

j.

Organize learning workshops & school exchanges to share learning & enhance delivery

3.

Parents, community members & organizations have better understanding of disability & support IE:

Sensitize parents & community members on the rights & potential of CWDs
