VERALL GOAL

MISSION

The projects overall goal is to offer a solution to teach marginalised children the core skills of numeracy and literacy in

order to unlock their individual talents. Therefore, it uses ICT to meet the needs of every learner and carefully

developed applications that shall teach every child using it basics in maths and reading at their own pace and in their

own language.

HE SOLUTION THAT HAS BEEN DEVELOPED

In Malawi, one state where the project was implemented, there are usually more than 100 children in one class, which

makes it difficult to meet the individual needs of every pupil. Therefore, the project wants to offer the technology and

the infrastructure for a personalised learning solution for marginalised children. This shall happen trough a software,

which is made available as an application for "Apple I-Pads". The application features a virtual teacher that speaks in the

local language and at an age-appropriate level and which guides pupils progressively through a series of comprehensive

activities based on the national curriculum. Currently the application is available to acquire math skills, a literacy app

that shall teach children how to read correctly is in development. The children in the participating schools, that use the

application, attend regular sessions in a purpose-built classroom that is constructed by a local partner organization. In

these classes, the children receive "I-Pads", which are equipped with assistive features so children with physical and

learning disabilities can use the technology and the applications alongside their peers, and headphones with which they

can utilize the application. Then a profile is created for each learner and remote monitoring tracks their progress as they

work through the apps. The information is then fed back to their teachers, which enables them to direct attention to

children that become halted on a particular part of the app and children who are making slow progress. The designed

classes are completely child cantered and the application provides a full course and not just exercises to practise.
