O

VERALL GOAL

/

MISSION

To develop a tool for Supported Employment (SE), using the potential of ICT (in particular tablets), to help workers with

disabilities to achieve their goals with a higher autonomy, and also improve job coaches’ efficiency.

T

HE SOLUTION THAT HAS BEEN DEVELOPED

EcaTIC is A Tablet App gathering together tasks, resources and ICT features in one place, providing systematic guidance

for the worker and real-time communication between worker and coach. The reduction in the coach’s presence and the

use of advanced technology helps to mitigate the social “stigma” of supported employment, increasing consequently

users’ motivation and autonomy. It takes into account every disability group in the scope of Supported Employment

regulation: intellectual disability, autism spectrum disorder, cerebral palsy with communication difficulties, hearing

impairment, mental illness and deaf-blindness. This means a wide range of circumstances, different requirements

regarding features and interaction with the interface. EcaTIC has two environments: A web tool (platform), intended for

coaches and support staff to set work plans; an App for iPad conceived to be used by users at work and for the coach to

interact with users and monitor their performance. The menu for coaches and support staff includes the following

features: creating users and managing settings for profiles; creating tasks and directions; assigning tasks, timing &

frequency; monitoring tasks; scheduling alerts; uploading resources; video calls & e-mails. The menu for users includes:

tasks description, timing and positive reinforcement; calendar; contacts; support resources; maps (frequent routes –

GPS location); reminders; communication/interaction job coach by video-conference or e-mail.
