VERALL GOAL

/

MISSION

The overall goal of the 4-D-Joystick project is to give humans with physical disabilities the possibility to play in the real

world with non-trivial toys like radio-controlled cars, boats, airplanes, helicopters and multicopters and trough this open

them a world that was closed for them until now. Since assisting technologies for humans with physical disabilities have

been developed and used in the high-tech sector, e.g. for computers, like alternate keyboards, for environment control

and for communication purposes, but not for the own entertainment, the 4-D-Joystick is also supposed to fill an existing

gap.

T

HE SOLUTION THAT HAS BEEN DEVELOPED

To play is for every human, whether old or young, an important topic, and is, beside language, culture and technique,

one of the highest achievements of human beings and the right to play is also mentioned in the "UN-Convention on the

Rights of the Child". Although devices exist with which people with physical disabilities can control a computer with

their mouth, these devices are completely unsuitable to control non-trivial toys, like the ones mentioned before.

Therefore, the 4-D-Joystick is a completely new and innovative approach to make non-trivial toys available to use for

people with physical disabilities. The 4-D-Joystick is a fully adequate remote control that can be operated with one’s

mouth. The functioning of the device enables people with physical disabilities an exact and reliable control of remote-

controlled devices with their mouth. The advantage of remote-controlled devices is that only the remote control needs

to be changed; the device remains in the initial state and keeps its warranty. In connection with the open-source

software, AsTeRICS the 4-D-Joystick can also be used to control, for example, an instrument, as a controller for

computer games, like the PlayStation, and as a computer mouse.

ACTS ABOUT SIZE AND SCOPE

The growth-rate between July 2014 and June 2015 is 100% (even though the 4-D-Joystick is a prototype that will

soon reach market maturity)
