education, with almost 90% being provided university scholarships, with more than 80% going on to have

successful careers. In addition, SKSN has also provided admissions to approximately 1,800 non-disabled,

underprivileged children from the local area.

enrolled into the program.

4)

IMAGE Community Program: Over 250 IMAGE youth with mixed-abilities are currently delivering the sport for

social change program in 5 villages to over 1500 direct village beneficiaries and approximately 8500 indirect

beneficiaries, including adults and family members.

OUTLOOK

The IMAGE Community program is currently in the pilot phase. In the absence of a similar sport for development, or

sport for social change project existing in India, we have to develop all formal structures, content, training workshops,

monitoring and evaluation frameworks, curricula, and support materials, from scratch.

Once the pilot phase is complete, we will have all the tools in place to turn IMAGE into a replicable model that can be

adapted by other organisations within India, and even countries abroad.

They say it takes at least 7 years to achieve any meaningful social change in society. Given the impact that IMAGE is

having on extremely orthodox mind-sets regarding disability, within a relatively short space of time, it is definitely worth

investing time, energy, and resources to ensure that we develop a model that can be rolled out on a national scale. This

would be one way of changing the face of physical disability in India.
