OVERALL GOAL /MISSION
The mission of the project is to support EnAble India, a charitable trust, which was established in 1999. Their goal is the
empowerment of persons with disabilities by employing them, offering pre-employment services, supplemental
education, counselling and support services, consultancy and training for other institutions and NGO's and technology
services. Especially because persons with disabilities find it difficult to find employment and are often not aware of the
jobs available and are not prepared with the right education, skill sets or attitude.
THE SOLUTION THAT HAS BEEN DEVELOPED
The IBM-Team, that supports EnAble India, wants to tackle the skill gap in terms of IT skills of people with disabilities in
India to increase their chance to get a job in the IT sector in India. Therefore, they developed a research model and
templates for conducting future interviews of IT (and other) companies. They gather best practices by interviewing nine
diversity leaders of different companies, develop and deliver an approach for a consulting model, a report containing
the results of the project teams research around IT industry’s needs, requirements and barriers on hiring people with
disabilities to include the interview results and a consulting model, a brochure to support the development of the
membership/subscription packaged solutions and assist in planning and delivering a workshop involving identified IT
companies in Bangalore to share findings of the research and best practices. They also developed a business plan that
reinforced their branding and marketing strategy to make the NGO self-sustainable and even more effective in their
support to the people with disabilities community in India. They also have an ongoing dialogue with the members of
EnAble India and the people with disability community in India.
