VERALL GOAL

/

MISSION

The mission of the social and technology business VerbaVoice is to provide 100% inclusive education and language

accessibility for pupils / students with disabilities through a flexible and customizable online interpreting platform. The

system focuses on hearing impaired people but also provides a solution for the education of mobility impaired or

hospitalized pupils of all school forms and age groups who can join a class remotely. Each platform component (original

video and audio, live transcript and sign language (SL) video as well as document upload) can be added / customized as

needed to provide the best service possible. Thus, the system works in multilingual contexts as well and facilitates

foreign language learning processes for hearing impaired children. The overall goal of the ongoing technological

developments and enhancements is to support the implementation of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with

Disabilities in Germany and throughout Europe - especially through accessible and fully inclusive technologies for

schools and universities - but also for live events and political participation. As the remote system enables the

employment of blind speech-to-text reporters (STTR) (using a speech recognition software and a braille display), deaf

sign language interpreters (interpreting into their native language on the basis of the live text created by the speech-to-

text reporters) as well as mobility impaired interpreters (who can work from home).

T

HE SOLUTION THAT HAS BEEN DEVELOPED

VerbaVoice offers a custom-built, completely accessible online conferencing system (browser-based, Flash, accessible

for blind people using screen readers, tailor-made to suit the needs of deaf and hard of hearing users). A specific app is

available on mobile devices for iOS and Android to display spoken content through live text and video on mobile

devices. A dedicated cloud-based online booking and administration system (Adobe Life-Cycle) facilitates access to the

services. The text transmission system VerbaVoice Live Text (VLT) features optimized text flow and one-by-one

transmission of characters, as well as the VerbaVoice Live Editor (VLE) - a tool used for permanent live text correction by

several STTRs at the same time.
