MISSION

The project aims to invigorate the capacities of the Institute for Special Housing Panama to guarantee an inclusive and

secure education, even in situations of emergency and disaster.

T

HE SOLUTION THAT HAS BEEN DEVELOPED

The centres for inclusive education in Panama are not equipped with knowledge and capacities to prepare themselves,

reduce or conduct risks of disasters. There also does not exist an interdisciplinary answer to tackle the themes of

disabilities and risks of disasters for the protection of the rights of children, juveniles and adolescents with disabilities in

situations of emergency and disaster. Therefore, this project wants to increase the resilience of the centres, its

management, its employees, its technicians, its lecturers, students, families and the community. The projects

intervention is concentrated on education and participation, which shall work as a medium to generate a culture of

inclusive management of risks of disasters. It participates in the construction of a common language that allows the

creation of capacities to manage risks of disasters that affect adolescents and juveniles with disabilities and their

families. It also contributes to the production of plans and projects for the prevention, appeasement, preparation and

reconstruction of risks in an inclusive form. Furthermore, the project members support the construction of interior

capacities at schools and inside the authorities of management of public education to perceive the different types of

disabilities. Finally, it also aims at strategic actors of the management of disaster risks at a national and local level.

Within this context, the project has developed different inclusive methods and tools for the information of adolescents

and juveniles to reduce risks of disasters.
